Contra the 1 Star review on here from TheNoLookPass, while Horton doesn’t discuss James 2:24 specifically, he deals with related verses in that passage and deals directly with the issue of interpreting James and Paul in pages 367-370 of vol. 2. Disingenuous review from TheNoLookPass.

Exceptional breadth and depth of coverage of justification from the early church to the Reformers. Horton is more concerned (at least on the surface) with disputing Luther’s relationship with nominalism than he is with rebutting the new perspective on Paul. While surprising it is certainly refreshing.

James 2:24 isn’t covered in volume 1 or 2. My review is not disingenuous at all. The accusation is false. Horton never discusses James 2:24.

This is a fantastic book. Breathtaking almost in his depth of research. Can’t wait to read volume 2! Contrary to some comment below, he does in fact deal with the James v. Paul justification passages in the chapter on law and gospel, but identifies it for what it is: a simple semantic difference wherein the authors are dealing with different issues and different opponents.Minus one star because it is just really long and felt like it could have been trimmed down a bit, especially toward the end. Sort of began to feel like I was reading the same things over and over at the end, but definitely worth it!
