Ok, full disclosure, I was one of the editors, I didn't go to Maryland, and I'm not into basketball. It didn't make a bit of difference. I was blown away by how deeply these two athletes searched their souls and the way they described powering through the crushing pressure and deep sorrow they survived after Len Bias' death. If you're looking for a book that is only about a superstar's passing, this might not be for you. If instead, you want to read about the guts, repressed fury, and relentless determination that it takes to work through the pain of loss after loss after loss, then this is an uplifting story of two boys who grew into two strong men with happy and successful lives. To a large extent, they made it because of the Lessons they Learned from Lenny. Believe me, this one wasn't hard to edit. Williams and Massenberg were open and their comments authentic and heartfelt. I loved this book so much, I might even watch a Maryland game.
