Doug French has worked in test-preparation since he first signed on with The Princeton Review in 1992. He has worked as an author, instructor, and course developer for the SAT, SAT Subject Tests, LSAT, GMAT, GRE, and way too many other standardized oppressions, until he became a full-time teacher, with summers off and everything, in 2004. He now works as a freelance writer in New York City.

Very disappointed! Book was very confusing to begin with. Information was all over the place and mixed up. Went to take the test and nothing in the book was even on the test. I would of did better focusing on the practice test the college provided me. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Just edited this to revise the star rating from 4 Stars to 5 Stars in an effort to un-skew the *low* average caused by the only other reviewer. If you check the other reviewer's profile, you'll notice that he/she has only EVER written 2 reviews and has a suspiciously bare profile. Both "reviews" were for Mr. French's COMPASS Exam Prep books. Only they're not *really* 2 separate reviews; it's actually 1 review that has been cut & pasted from 1 "review" to the other. Anyway, please read on for my ACTUAL review...I purchased this book a couple of weeks before I sat for my exam. I've always been pretty comfortable with unstructured writing, but not having been in school for over 20 years(and with only a GED at that), I was pretty nervous about having 1hr to write a persuasive essay. The essay section in this book helped me to get a perfect score(no kidding! :-)). Mr. French breaks the process down into easy-to-understand verbiage and walks you through the actual process of writing an essay, from the writing prompt, to the final draft. I also found the rest of the book to be well-written, with few errors or omissions. Finally, contrary to the statements of the only other reviewer of this book, I found that there were MANY examples in the book that were EXTREMELY similar to the material in the actual exam; not identical, but nearly so. I don't know what version of the exam the other reviewer took, but maybe he bought the wrong book??? Anyway, thanks a bunch, Mr. French! :-)
